The Military Pension Board will begin electronic verification for retired military personnel in 2024.

The exercise is expected to be held before the end of the first quarter of the year.

The immediate past Chairman of the board, Rear Admiral Sabur Lawal, disclosed this during the handing-over ceremony to his successor on Monday.

He said the exercise should have been conducted this year but for challenges faced by the company meant to handle the project.

Lawal noted the challenges had been resolved and the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Chris Musa, had directed the exercise should be conducted at the said date.

He said, “I would like the newly appointed military board pension to work on the issues of electronic verification of retirees which I very important.

“We tried to make sure that we conduct it this year but the IT company which we contracted the job to, encountered a series of challenges and unfortunately they thought they could solve all these challenges by themselves so they didn’t bring it on time to my attention and by the time I got to know it was already getting late because my tenure was already rounding up.

“I solved the little I could and by now all these challenges have been surmounted. So now the next thing is to fix the timeline for the conduct of the electronic verification exercise, which we have gotten directives from the CDS that it should be done not later than the first quarter of 2024 ”

Speaking, the new chairman of the board, Air Vice Marshal Paul Irhumeson, promised to improve on the achievement of his predecessor

He said, “For now we are sure we are going to improve and add value to what the former chairman has done. We are just going to add to his achievements and prioritize the welfare of our staff and the veterans.”
